ST. CHARLES BORROMEO PARISH

Religious Education Program

Religious Education at SCB Parish is off to a great start! Thank you to all the dedicated parents and students who make it a priority to be here each week. Your equally dedicated catechists appreciate the work you do at home, preparing your children to be eager learners in the classroom. The aim of every lesson here and at home is for the love and joy of Christ to fill their hearts and minds as they practice their faith, and make permanent the joys of living a life in fidelity to God’s Truth.

Students in all grades will have the opportunity, this year, to have “Class and Mass” at least three times during Religious Education. The R. E. Office and Father John are committed to
ensuring the students understand the importance of coming to Mass, and have the opportunity to learn “WHY we do WHAT we do at Mass”. We cannot love our Faith if we do not know our Faith!

The Rite of Enrollment Masses for our 8th Grade Confirmation Students will be on Sunday, November 16th at both the 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. Masses. As in the past, parishioners will be given the opportunity to spiritually adopt a Confirmation Candidate and pray on their behalf through their Confirmation next spring. The candidates are most appreciative of your prayers. Please watch for prayer cards with the students’ names in the vestibule outside the Sanctuary in November.

There will be a coffee/donut gathering between the masses, at 10 a.m., in the gymnasium to honor the Candidates. Please come and meet your adopted student; be sure to ask them “what they are practicing to make permanent, good spiritual and faith habits?” I think they’ll be excited to tell you about their journey.

A Christmas Breakfast for Senior Citizens will be hosted by the R.E. students on December 14th. More details will follow in future bulletins. Food for body and soul will be on the menu!

More Info about our REP programs

The catechetical components of religious education are varied.  The Director of Religious Education at St. Charles is Sr. Luanne Wilhelm, SLW.  Included in religious education, besides the religious education taught in the SCB School, is the REP (religious education program) for St. Charles students who attend public school.  Classes meet Saturday mornings for grades 1-5 and Monday evenings for grades 6-8.  An important part of religious education/formation is the sacramental preparation program for all St. Charles students and their parents/guardians as they prepare for the sacraments of Eucharist, Reconciliation, and Confirmation and the joyful celebration of these sacraments.  SPRED, under the direction of Mr. John Ainsworth and other adult leaders, is special religious education for the developmentally disabled, and meets here twice each month on Monday evenings.  Sunday mornings during the 9:00 and 11:00 liturgies, children grade K thru 5 are invited to go forth for Liturgy of the Word for children, lead by adult facilitators.  Finally, the RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults) under the direction of Deacon Tim Taylor and his team, meets each week with adults preparing to be initiated into the Catholic Church.  Volunteers are needed in various capacities for any of these programs.  Call or email the Religious Education Office at 630-766-8822 or luanneslw@comcast.net.
