ST. CHARLES
BORROMEO PARISH
Religious Education Program
All parish religious education programs have as their goal the development of a living, conscious and active faith. Programs for children and youth support parents in their role as primary education of their children by weekly bulletin inserts, family-friendly preparation for 1st Reconciliation and Eucharist, and Confirmation and family workshops for the Advent and Lenten seasons.
Preschool groups meet during the 9:00 and 10:30 Sunday Masses. They are open to parish children 3 years of age through Kindergarten. Elementary school students meet on Saturday mornings at two different sessions 8:30-9:45am and 10:00-11:15am. Junior High students usually have class on Monday evenings from 7:00-8:15pm. They also assemble on the 1st Sunday of the month for the "Sunday Gathering" from 10:30am to 1:00pm.
The SPRED program is for children and adults who are not mainstreamed into our regular classes. They meet on the second and fourth Monday of the month from 7:00-9:00pm.
Believing that God calls us to friendship and service in a variety of ways, retreats, the Christmas Eve play, the "Miracle Singers" and involvement in the life of the parish are offered to all parish children and teens. The Sweater and Sweatshirt Drive and the Lenten Shoe Collection during Lent are two examples of our out-reach ministries. For more information contact the Religious Education Office.

More Info about our REP programs
The catechetical components of religious education are varied. The Director of Religious Education at St. Charles is Sr. Luanne Wilhelm, SLW. Included in religious education, besides the religious education taught in the SCB School, is the REP (religious education program) for St. Charles students who attend public school. Classes meet Saturday mornings for grades 1-5 and Monday evenings for grades 6-8. An important part of religious education/formation is the sacramental preparation program for all St. Charles students and their parents/guardians as they prepare for the sacraments of Eucharist, Reconciliation, and Confirmation and the joyful celebration of these sacraments. SPRED, under the direction of Mr. John Ainsworth and other adult leaders, is special religious education for the developmentally disabled, and meets here twice each month on Monday evenings. Sunday mornings during the 9:00 and 11:00 liturgies, children grade K thru 5 are invited to go forth for Liturgy of the Word for children, lead by adult facilitators. Finally, the RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults) under the direction of Deacon Tim Taylor and his team, meets each week with adults preparing to be initiated into the Catholic Church. Volunteers are needed in various capacities for any of these programs. Call or email the Religious Education Office at 630-766-8822 or luanneslw@comcast.net.
